Klaus Nomi was a German countertenor noted for his wide vocal range and an unusual, otherworldly stage persona. Nomi was known for his bizarrely theatrical live performances, heavy make-up, unusual costumes, and a highly stylized signature hairdo which flaunted a receding hairline. His songs were equally unusual, ranging from synthesizer-laden interpretations of classical music opera to covers of 60s pop standards

Alarm Call

In 1998, Matmos remixed the Björk single Alarm Call. Subsequently, Matmos worked with Björk on her albums Vespertine (2001) and Medúlla (2004), as well as her Vespertine and Greatest Hits tours.

Matmos gained notoriety for their use of samples including “freshly cut hair” and “the amplified neural activity of crayfish” on their first album and “recorded the snips, clicks, snaps, and squelches of various surgical procedures, then nipped and tucked them into seven remarkably accessible, melodic pieces of experimental techno” for their album A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure

Jesu is an experimental rock band formed in 2003 by Justin Broadrick following the breakup of Godflesh. Jesu was the name of the last song on the final Godflesh release, Hymns, and Broadrick decided to adopt it as the name of his new project. Justin Broadrick is also an ex-member of Napalm Death, the famous grindcore/ death metal band. Also he worked with Kevin Martin (the brain of The Bug) on the projects God, Ice and Techno Animal.

Jesu’s sound is heavily layered and textured, drawing from and incorporating an eclectic mix of influences, ranging from ambient music, post-metal and drone doom, to shoegazing, downtempo and industrial music. Their recent releases have been described as “avant-pop” and avant-garde doom.

The members of Jesu are: Justin K Broadrick, Diarmuid Dalton, Ted Parsons and Dave Cochrane.
